Questions 21-23

Leader: Who is the redeemer of God’s elect?

People: The only redeemer of God’s elect is the Lord Jesus Christ, who, being the eternal Son of God, became man, and so was, and continueth to be, God and man in two distinct natures, and one person, forever.

Leader: How did Christ, being the Son of God, become man?

People: Christ, the Son of God, became man, by taking to himself a true body and a reasonable soul, being conceived by the power of the Holy Ghost in the womb of the virgin Mary, and born of her, yet without sin.

Leader: What offices doth Christ execute as our redeemer?

People: Christ, as our redeemer, executeth the offices of a prophet, of a priest, and of a king, both in his estate of humiliation and exaltation.

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

CLOSING HYMNGuide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah (TH# 598)

  1. Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
    pilgrim through this barren land;
    I am weak, but thou art mighty;
    hold me with thy pow’rful hand;
    Bread of heaven, Bread of heaven,
    feed me till I want no more,
    feed me till I want no more.
  2. Open now the crystal fountain,
    whence the healing stream doth flow;
    let the fire and cloudy pillar
    lead me all my journey through;
    strong Deliv’rer, strong Deliv’rer,
    be thou still my strength and shield,
    be thou still my strength and shield.
  3. When I tread the verge of Jordan,
    bid my anxious fears subside;
    Death of death, and hell’s Destruction,
    land me safe on Canaan’s side;
    songs of praises, songs of praises
    I will ever give to thee,
    I will ever give to thee.
